Clean air still drives EV sale, but U.S. tax credits help.
Ninety-two percent of electric vehicle (EV) owners said if they had to replace their car, they would get another EV, reported the Global EV Driver Survey 2024. And who could blame them with generous tax credits in place—$7,500 on a new EV and $4,000 on a used one.

Last year, the U.S. Treasury Department issued over $250,000 in EV tax credits, explained Emily Forlini, senior reporter for PCMag. “There is no doubt people are taking advantage of the credit, and it is factoring into their purchasing decision,” she explained. President Donald Trump may have frozen funding and revoked new EPA emissions targets, but tax credits are still in place.

As for vehicle manufacturers, they still expect Trump to delay the transition to electric, “but not stop it entirely,” Forlini explained. It is true that he has “frozen federal funding for public chargers, but that doesn't mean the many people who can charge at home won't keep buying and loving their EVs.”
