Special Journal Issue on Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Applications (TERM)

Special Journal Issue on Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Applications (TERM)

The ASME Journal of Medical Devices is currently accepting manuscripts for a special issue focusing on the topic “Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Applications (TERM).” Authors who are interested in having their manuscripts included in the special issue, to be published in September 2022, should submit their manuscripts by March 22, 2022.

Tissue engineering and regenerative medicine (TERM) remain among the most promising approaches to transform healthcare for all. Though there has been great investment in advancing technologies in these areas, implementation in clinical practice remains challenging and the broad potential benefits have yet to be realized. Nevertheless, advancements in these areas are continuously evident in a broad range of potential clinical applications.

This special issue of the ASME Journal of Medical Devices is intended to be a collection of original research that highlights the design, development, and implementation of novel technologies, systems, and methods for TERM applications. Manuscripts submitted for this special issue should be focused on technologies designed to investigate, evaluate, and advance TERM. All avenues of experimental research from proof-of-concept demonstration to exhaustive assessment of new devices are encouraged. The incorporation of numerical and/or computational analysis is also welcomed, though a stand-alone computational or numerical study is beyond the scope of this special issue.

Manuscripts to be included in the special issue should concentrate on a range of topics including bioreactors for 3D cell culture and stem cell differentiation; experimental flow systems and microfluidic devices for TERM applications; novel experimental mechanical testing systems and protocols for TERM applications; engineering 3D organoids and/or vascularized tissues; novel 3D bioprinting technologies and 3D-printed designs for tissue engineering and regeneration; devices/engineering protocols for standardizing TERM; and engineering of cell-based constructs and their applications for drug screening, diagnosis, and therapies.

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to the journal by March 22, 2022, via Journals Connect at journaltool.asme.org. Authors who have an account should log in and select “Submit Paper” at the bottom of the page.  Authors without an account should select “Submissions” and follow the steps.  At the Paper Submittal page, authors should select “ASME Journal of Medical Devices” and then select the special issue “Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Applications (TERM).” Papers received after the deadline or papers not selected for inclusion in the special issue may be accepted for publication in a regular issue.

The guest editors for the special issue are Jun Liao, associate professor, Bioengineering, The University of Texas at Arlington, USA, Jun.Liao@uta.edu; Michael Moreno, associate professor, Mechanical Engineering, Texas A&M University, USA, michael.moreno@tamu.edu; and Xiaoming He, professor, Biomedical Engineering, University of Maryland, USA, shawnhe@umd.edu.
