Outstanding Student Award

ASME Unit: Advanced Energy Systems Division (AESD)

Award Description: This award honors graduate or undergraduate students who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance, research contributions (including published papers and conference presentations), and leadership in advanced energy systems. It aims to encourage and support the next generation of energy professionals. Graduate and undergraduate students will be awarded separately.
Achievement:
  • Members of the AESD Awards Review Committee shall not nominate or sponsor a candidate while serving on the committee.
  • Nominations will be considered annually. Deadline date: Sep 15th each year.
  • A personal statement and CV are required to demonstrate the candidate's overall achievements relevant to the award criteria.
  • 2 sponsor letters plus the nominator’s letter are required to complete the nomination. (A total of 3 letters will be accepted).
  • At least one letter must come from an AESD member.
  • No more than one letter should come from the nominee’s organization.
Limitations: Each AES Division award is presented at most once per year to a single individual (with the exception of the Outstanding Student Award, which may be awarded separately to one undergraduate and one graduate student). An individual may receive only one AES Division award in a given year, and the award may be withheld if no suitable nomination is received. Members of the AES Division Awards Review Committee may not nominate or sponsor candidates while serving on the committee, and conflicts of interest are managed to ensure a fair and unbiased selection process.

Selecting Process:

Award recipients are selected annually through a competitive nomination process. Nominations are reviewed by an AES Division Awards Review Committee approved by the AES Executive Committee. Candidates are evaluated based on their impact, technical or professional contributions, leadership, service to the community, and alignment with the intent of the award. The committee’s recommendation is submitted to the AES Executive Committee for final concurrence prior to notification and presentation of the award.
