The ASME 2013 Gas Turbine Indian Conference will be held Dec 5-6

New York (USA), Dec. 3, 2013 – Arun Majumdar, Ph.D., a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, who went on to become the founding director of the U.S. Department of Energy Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy, has been named an honorary member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

Majumdar received a medal and certificate during a formal ceremony held Nov. 18, 2013, at the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition in San Diego, Calif. He was cited for "pioneering research in micro/nano-scale heat transfer and for distinguished service on the ASME Journal of Heat Transfer editorial board."

Currently the vice president for energy at Mountain View, Calif.-based Google Inc., Arun Majumdar is a foremost leader in energy development and innovation, contributing to important programs during a distinguished research career at the University of California, Berkeley; Arizona State University, and other research institutions. In October 2009, Mujumdar was nominated by U.S. President Barack Obama, and subsequently confirmed in the U.S. Senate, to become the founding director of the DOE Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy, where he carried out transformational R&D in energy efficiency, renewable technologies, and storage systems.

A fellow of ASME and founding chair of the Society's Nanotechnology Institute, Majumdar holds 16 patents and has published more than 200 articles and scholarly papers on renewable energy, energy storage, nano-materials, and other topics.

Honorary membership, the highest level of membership in ASME, recognizes distinguished service that contributes significantly to the goals of the engineering profession.
