Base-e President Peter Baldwin Receives ASME Dedicated Service Award

HOUSTON (March 18, 2024) Peter Baldwin, president of Base-e, a Boston-based independent consulting company focused on practical strategies for emerging energy technologies, has received the 2024 Dedicated Service Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The award honors unusual dedicated voluntary service to the Society marked by outstanding performance, demonstrated effective leadership, prolonged and committed service, devotion, enthusiasm and faithfulness.

Baldwin has been a member of ASME’s Electric Power Committee (EPC) since 2012. Over the past 12 years, he has served as chair of the Fuels Subcommittee of EPC. In this role, he developed comprehensive annual summaries of the world’s fuel resources, availability, usage, and geopolitical issues impacting fuels. “It was a must-see presentation every time,” said Thomas Christiansen, a co-member of the ASME EPC and senior vice president of Strategic Power Systems, Inc., who nominated Baldwin for the award.

Baldwin has been involved in all aspects of the gas turbine and compressor industries for almost 60 years, and has broad general industry knowledge and practice, based on years of global commercial interactions.

He is the immediate past president of Ramgen Power Systems, a Seattle-based developer of an advanced shock compression technology intended for use as a CCS CO2 compressor. He is also the past president of Northern Research & Engineering Corporation (NREC). NREC was responsible for the development of I-R’s PowerWorks Microturbine Technology and built and tested the world’s first SOFC/GT hybrid at 53% net electric efficiency in partnership with Westinghouse/UC Irvine. NREC was also responsible for the advanced marine gas turbine recuperator technology with Rolls-Royce.

Prior to joining NREC, Baldwin was vice president of sales and service for North America for I-R’s Air Compressor Group, and the company’s vice president of marketing.

Baldwin spent two years in London as a Centac division area manager and two years as product manager of Centac Compressor for Europe, Mideast, and Africa, operating out of the division manufacturing location in Milan, Italy.

He has been a contributing editor with Turbomachinery International magazine from 2000 to 2008, and Gas Turbine World since 2020.

About ASME
ASME helps the global engineering community develop solutions to real world challenges.  Founded in 1880 as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME is a not-for-profit professional organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing, and skill development across all engineering disciplines, while promoting the vital role of the engineer in society. ASME codes and standards, publications, conferences, continuing education, and professional development programs provide a foundation for advancing technical knowledge and a safer world. In 2020, ASME formed the International Society of Interdisciplinary Engineers (ISIE) II & III LLC, a new for-profit subsidiary to house business ventures that will bring new and innovative products, services, and technologies to the engineering community.
