Keith Miles Named Director of Major Gifts for ASME Foundation

Keith Miles
NEW YORK (May 11, 2020) – Keith Miles has joined the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) as director of major gifts for the ASME Foundation. In this newly created position, Miles will work with senior engineering and business leaders to secure substantial individual contributions in support of the Foundation’s philanthropic programs. Miles will be based in ASME’s Washington, D.C. office. “We appreciate the breadth of experience and commitment to diversity and inclusion that Keith brings to the role and the ASME Foundation,” says Kathleen Lobb, managing director of philanthropy for ASME and executive director of the ASME Foundation. “With his background in philanthropy, legal affairs and higher education – and track record of success in major giving – Keith is well-positioned to help the Foundation meet our ambitious goals for our capital campaign fundraising effort.”

“ASME is pleased to welcome Keith to the Foundation team,” says ASME Executive Director/CEO Tom Costabile. “This is an exciting and pivotal time for the Foundation, and Keith’s expertise in securing major contributions will help us achieve our philanthropic goals and better achieve our mission overall.”

Prior to joining ASME, Miles spent the last 22 years in roles spanning student affairs, legal affairs and fundraising at Howard University. For the last six years, he held leadership roles in major giving and annual giving, managing an extensive portfolio of donors, building a broad base of support among the University’s many constituents, and consistently meeting or exceeding his significant annual fundraising targets. Before joining Howard’s fundraising team, he began his professional tenure there as manager for litigation in the general counsel’s office, and later served as chief of staff and senior advisor in the office of student affairs.

“Engineers create life-changing and life-saving solutions we all benefit from, and it’s a true honor to help facilitate that work,” said Miles. “I’m pleased to join an organization that’s deeply committed to empowering the next generation of engineers and creating a future workforce that’s as diverse as the world around us.”

Earlier in his career, Miles worked as a law clerk at the Chemical Manufacturers Association in Washington, D.C. He holds a law degree and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Howard University, and speaks French, Spanish and Mandarin.
