New Global Marathon Initiative Aims to Support Women in Engineering

NEW YORK, Feb. 14, 2012 – As a part of the continuing effort to support women in the engineering workforce, ASME will be a partner in the 8th Annual Global Marathon following Engineers Week 2012.

The Global Marathon, set for March 5-10, 2012, is a worldwide forum and information exchange for current and future generations of women.  Sponsored by the National Engineers Week Foundation, the program will connect women in engineering and technology across a diverse range of disciplines, experience levels, ages, interests, backgrounds, cultures, industries and employers.

The Global Marathon will kick off each day with a 60-minute webcast discussing seminal issues affecting women, such as clean water, clean energy, and entrepreneurship.  Each webcast will offer a glimpse of the hope and future of the world, and include concrete steps and solutions to build a new tomorrow.

Details about the new initiative will be promoted at EWeek 2012, which celebrates the positive contributions engineers make to society.  EWeek begins on Feb. 19.

As co-chair of EWeek 2012, ASME supports the mission of the National Engineers Week Foundation to sustain and grow a dynamic engineering profession through outreach, education, celebration, and volunteerism. ASME’s activities for EWeek include the DiscoverE Summit, DiscoverE Educator Recognition Awards, and Inspire Innovation Workshops.
