ASME Anthracite-Lehigh Valley Section: NSPE-PA Tour of the Governor Mifflin Athletic and Community Center (GMACC)

Join ASME Anthracite-Lehigh Valley and NSPE-PA for a tour of the Governor Mifflin Athletic and Community Center (GMACC), currently under construction. This tour will be led by Mr. Timothy Ziegler, Director of Operations for the Governor Mifflin School District, as well as personnel from SitelogIQ Project Management and Schrader Group Architectural Design. The tour will take place in the 68,500 square foot facility, currently under construction, that will house a 2,200 seat gymnasium, locker and team rooms, sports medicine center, fitness center and weight room, classrooms, and other sports amenities. Estimated completion for this facility is September 2023. For this engineering-focused tour, special attention will be placed on the civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and environmental aspects of the project including the challenges faced and solutions developed during the construction to date. Learning Objectives: 1) To learn how the different materials and components in this project come together as well as the processes and mechanisms involved in constructing this facility. 2) To discuss problems faced and solutions developed, honing the skill of thinking on our feet, and mitigating crises when things do not go as planned. 3) To hone awareness of on-construction-site safety and to understand the importance of safety in a smooth and successful construction process. An optional after-tour gathering will take place at the Liberty Tap room for continued dialog and opportunity for Q&A with those involved in the project and with fellow tour attendees.
