Join the ASME Central Virginia Section and the Eastern Virginia Chapter of ASM International for a tour of the Gerdau Steel Plant on November 16th. Gerdau Petersburg is a structural steel mill under the Gerdau Long Steel North America Division. The mill uses 100% recycled steel scrap and produces a variety of structural shapes for buildings, bridges, etc. Previously Chaparral Steel, this mill was acquired in 2007 by Gerdau, a Brazilian company, and the 14th largest steel producer in the world. The tour will consist of a brief safety presentation by the plant’s safety manager, then a comprehensive tour through the melt shop and rolling mill. The mill will be in full operation during the tour, so the attendees will get a chance to see what heavy industry is really like! There is no cost to attend the tour.
