The ASME Greenville Section January 2023 program will be a joint event with the Western Carolina Section of the American Welding Society (AWS). We are privileged to have Walter Sperko, P.E., President of Sperko Engineering in Greensboro NC, speaking on “Basic Steel Welding Metallurgy”. Mr. Sperko’s presentation will focus on the following questions and issues: What is steel and why is it so versatile; Phase changes and hardenability; What happens during welding; Controlling properties – heat treatment; and Austenitic Stainless Steels. Walter J. Sperko, P.E., has extensive experience in welding engineering, metallurgical engineering, design, failure analysis, and quality assurance.
