Join the Mid-Continent Section on Sept 9th for Steel Protection 201: Considerations in Steel Protection. Learn about protecting structural steel in buildings through fireproofing design, testing, and application. This course will review the process crucial to optimization of steel design, focusing on fire protection as a key consideration. Design considerations relating to steel protection will be reviewed along with ways to determine the type of fireproofing that best suits the overall application. The speaker will review test standards required to meet International Building Code requirements and examples of typical fireproofing specification sections. Attendees will also learn about common application issues faced by fireproofing applicators, as well as inspection requirements per the IBC and inspection guidance for local Authorities Having Jurisdiction. Presented by speaker Ernst Toussaint, PE, an engineering manager for product testing and technical support regarding Steel Protection for Hilti North America, Ernst has more than 20 years of diverse experience in the fireproofing, pipeline, chemical plant and industrial coating/corrosion control environments.
