As strict emission controls and concern about climate change push the development of renewable energy sources, baseload generation still relies on fossil fuels. Bruce Rising, strategic business manager for Siemens Energy Inc., discusses the mix of fuel sources and the continuing advantages of producing electricity from fossil fuels, especially natural gas. Despite the pressure on coal, he says emerging technology holds promise in continuing its use as a source of cheaper fuel.
