ASME Welcomes Laurie E. Locascio as ANSI President and CEO
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has announced the selection of Laurie E. Locascio, Ph.D., as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 2025. Locascio currently serves as the Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Her appointment follows a thorough search for a successor to Joe Bhatia, who will retire at the end of the year after nearly two decades of dedicated service to ANSI.
Dr. Locascio brings a wealth of experience from her long and distinguished career. As NIST Director, she has been pivotal in promoting U.S. innovation and competitiveness through measurement science, standards, and technology. During her tenure as NIST Director, the Institute has played a key role in implementing important federal initiatives like the U.S. Government National Standards Strategy for Critical and Emerging Technology and the CHIPS for America program.
Locascio’s achievements have earned her numerous accolades, including fellowships in prestigious organizations such as the National Academy of Engineering, National Academy of Inventors, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. She holds a B.S. in chemistry from James Madison University, an M.S. in bioengineering from the University of Utah, and a Ph.D. in toxicology from the University of Maryland Baltimore.
