New designs could lower costs for wave energy systems.
The development and rapid deployment of wind and solar energy systems hinges on costs. Decarbonization goals have accelerated as generating costs for renewables have dropped. One renewable source lags behind: wave energy. Its potential is great but costs still remain a challenge as structural elements represent up to 50 pecent of overall costs. Here are two examples of wave systems, one conceptual and one now being installed.
