Quiz: Pursuit of Deep Space Travel

Flinging satellites into space is one thing, but technology that would propel humans far past the moon remains elusive.
Space tourism may be on the rise, but the search for technology that will carry people to other planets within our solar system continues. The three closest planets to Earth are millions of miles away. On average, Mars is about 140 million miles away, for example.

Of course, manned vehicles can’t go anywhere near the speed of unmanned ones. The fastest speed ever reached in a manned spacecraft was 24,790 mph, achieved by the Apollo 10 capsule in 1969.

Test your knowledge about some of the various technologies that are bringing humans one step closer to deep space travel.
