A middle school science and social studies teacher for 14 years, Derek uses engineering lessons and exposure to engineering careers to empower his students. With 85% of his students living at or below the poverty level, Derek knows engineering is a viable option for his students to break out of the cycle of poverty. He believes that students need to relate what they learn to their everyday lives.
