U.S. Rep. Jerry McNerney of California is one the few members of Congress with a technical background. An ASME Fellow, he earned a Ph.D. in mathematics and has held energy-related positions at Sandia National Laboratories and in the private sector. He co-founded the bipartisan Grid Innovation Caucus to highlight the problems of an outdated electrical grid and developmentsin smart technology. Here hetalks about the electrification of power systems, energy efficiency, education and workforce needs.
