Video: The New Tappan Zee Bridge, Part 1: The Design
New York's Tappan Zee Bridge crosses the Hudson River some 25 miles north of New York City. The aging structure is being replaced in a $3.9-billion project that boasts twin cable-stayed structures to handle the increasing number of vehicles using the bridge daily. Contractor Tappan Zee Constructors is working under New York’s first design-build contract to bring the job in by 2018. Project engineers describe the new design and the pile-driving operation on which the new spans are founded.
