Dr. Sonya Smith Keynotes iWME 2022
Though Mechanical Engineering graduates make up the plurality of degreed engineers in the US, women are still woefully underrepresented in the discipline – constituting roughly 16% of ME Bachelor’s Degree recipients and less than 10% of the overall ME workforce. Dr. Sonya Smith is at the forefront of the movement to change that. In her keynote address from ASME’s Increasing Women in Mechanical Engineering Conference 2022, the President of the Women in Engineering ProActive Network (WEPAN) and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Howard University discusses changing minds, transforming institutional culture, and blazing the trail to achieving gender equity in ME.
