Nominations Now Being Accepted for Eight ASME Awards


Nominations are currently being accepted for eight prestigious ASME awards — including the Ralph Coats Roe Award, which is accompanied by a $12,000 honorarium. The deadlines to submit a nomination for these awards range from June 1 to Sept. 15.

June 1 is the closing date for nominations for the Gas Turbine Award, which honors the design of gas turbines and components, related problems, applications and operations. The winner will receive a $1,000 honorarium and a bronze plaque. For more information on making a nomination, contact Ron Bunker, award chair, at bunker@crd.ge.com.

June 15 is the nomination deadline for the S.Y. Zamrik Pressure Vessels & Piping Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of pressure vessels and piping technology. The winner of the award will receive a $2,000 prize, a bronze medal and a certificate. To nominate someone for this award, contact Dennis Williams, award chair, by e-mail at denniskw@sharoden.com.

Nominations for the Fluids Engineering Award, recognizing outstanding contributions to the field of fluids engineering, are due Aug. 30. The honoree will receive a $1,000 honorarium, a bronze medal and a certificate. Nominations should be submitted to Yu Lee, award chair, at yu.lee@navy.mil.

Nominations for four ASME awards – the Y.C. Fung Young Investigator Award, Patrick J. Higgins Award, the H.R. Lissner Medal and the Van C. Mow Medal – are due Sept. 1.

The Y.C. Fung Young Investigator Award, which encourages young investigators to pursue research in bioengineering, includes a $1,000 prize, a bronze medal and a certificate. To nominate someone for this award, contact Jay Humphrey, award chair, at Jay.humphrey@yale.edu. Candidates should be under the age of 36 and have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

The Patrick J. Higgins Award honors an individual who has contributed to the enhancement of standardization and the advancement of ASME codes, standards and conformity assessment. The winner will receive a $1,000 honorarium, a bronze medal and a certificate. Nominations for this award should be submitted to Dave Viola, award chair, at Dave.viola@iapmo.org.

Recognizing pioneering contributions in biomechanical research, the H.R. Lissner Medal includes a $1,000 prize, a bronze medal and a certificate. To submit a nomination, contact Thomas Andriacchi, award chair, by e-mail at tandriac@stanform.edu.

The winner of the Van C. Mow Medal, awarded for meritorious contributions to the field of bioengineering, will receive a $1,000 honorarium, a bronze medal and a certificate. Candidates for this award must have received a Ph.D. or equivalent degree between 10 and 20 years prior to June of the year of award. Nominations should be submitted to Lori Setton, award chair, at setton@duke.edu.

Sept. 15 is the nomination deadline for the Ralph Coats Roe Award, which recognizes significant contributions to understanding the engineer's worth to society. In addition to the $12,000 honorarium, the award also includes a gold medal, a certificate and an expense supplement.
