Louis Bialy to Lead Training on ASME A.17.7 / B44.7

NEW YORK, Feb. 7, 2013 — Louis Bialy, P.E., will present a new one-day ASME MasterClass to provide in-depth knowledge on the application of the ASME A17.7/B44.7 Performance Based Code for elevators and escalators. The training program will be held May 1, 2013, at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers headquarters in New York City.

The “Application of the A17.7/B44.7 Performance Based Code” MasterClass training program will feature case studies and active group discussion to demonstrate the application of the code and the responsibilities of manufacturers, Accredited Elevator/Escalator Certification Organizations (AECOs), and enforcing authorities.

“In recent years there has been an increasing demand for safe, reliable and innovative elevator products,” said Bialy, who has 32 years of experience in elevator and escalator engineering.  “This ASME MasterClass is designed to demonstrate how the ASME A17.7/B44.7 Performance Based Code provides a structured process for ensuring safety while enabling innovation.”

The training event will benefit engineering development professionals as well as Code experts involved in developing innovative products based on new technologies for markets in North America.

“This course will be of particular interest to any company planning to introduce innovative products not specifically covered by the A17.1/B44 Code into the North American market, as well as consultants, AECOs and enforcement authorities engaged in the assessment of elevator equipment based on innovative technology,” said Mr. Bialy.  “It is structured on the assumption that participants have some working knowledge of the ASME A17.1/B44 Code.”

Louis Bialy, P.E. has 46 years' experience in the design, development and testing of industrial products, including 32 years in elevator and escalator engineering.  Mr. Bialy established the Otis Canada R&D Department in 1980 and, since 1984, has led the development of many Otis products in hydraulic, geared and gearless elevators as well as door systems.

In addition, Bialy is an active member of the ISO/TC178 Plenary Committee on lifts, elevators and moving walks as well as several ISO working groups, and serves as a voting member on the ASME A17 Standards Committee on Elevators and Escalators.
