Women's Networking Group

Chair: Rita M. Patterson, University of North Texas Health Sciences Center
Co-Chair: Jennifer Wayne, Virginia Tech

Overview:

The Women’s Networking Group of the ASME Bioengineering Division brings together women faculty and industry leaders at the SB3C (Summer Biomechanics, Bioengineering and Biotransport Conference) to strategically promote a diverse and inclusive environment within the division. This group has been meeting since 2007 with the purpose to provide mentoring, networking and communication for women involved in the biomechanics field to help further their careers. It also seeks to promote the careers of women by identifying those that are eligible and deserving of awards and fellow status within ASME as well as other professional societies.

The Women’s Networking Group continues to consider how best to address community needs and now is hosting a midyear event featuring a prominent speaker on a topic timely to our profession.

In June 2021, the Women’s Networking Group was named the 2021 recipient of the Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, Inc., Medal from ASME. The award recognizes outstanding contribution by the group toward developing and implementing practices, processes, and programs that value and strategically manage diversity and inclusiveness.  The award was established by the ASME Board on Diversity and Outreach in 2004 through the generous contributions of individual ASME members and Johnson& Johnson Consumer Companies, Inc.
