ASME Section Takes Part in Family Day 2016 in Washington D.C.
On Saturday, Feb. 27, the Washington D.C. Section of ASME participated in Discover Engineering Family Day 2016 at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. The section hosted an interactive exhibit at the free event, which is an annual hands-on engineering and science festival held each February during Engineers Week at the museum.
At this year’s Family Day, the Washington D.C. Section presented the exhibit Waves. Led by ASME section member Tom Beutner, the exhibit featured a series of short hands-on and interactive demonstrations of various wave phenomena in different mediums, including sound, light, and mechanical waves.
Nearly 8,000 visitors stopped by the ASME booth to learn about the science of waves and make their own plastic cup telephone. Twelve volunteers from the D.C. Section and local ASME student sections welcomed visitors to the booth, where they gave away 1,200 ASME drawstring backpacks, Waves educational handouts, and ASME youth-oriented activities brochures during the festival.
The date has already been set for next year’s Family Day: Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017. For more information on the annual event, visit www.engineeringfamilyday.org.
